Pucking Sweet

When Colton boards the team bus, he immediately notes Lukas’s poor mood. Lukas’s irritability lasts until they board their plane. When Poppy stumbles in the aisle, dropping her phone, Lukas grabs it and demands to know why she’s “social media stalking some preppy douche named Anderson Montgomery” (189). The other players pass her phone between them, making fun of Anderson.

After Poppy snatches back her phone and returns to her seat, Colton and Lukas google Anderson and learn that he was engaged to Poppy but is now engaged to her sister Violet. Lukas is horrified that he teased her about something that is clearly sensitive. Colton becomes increasingly convinced that something happened between Lukas and Poppy the night before.

Three days later, Poppy frets that none of the Rays have teased her about Anderson anymore because they pity her. When Lukas sends her his weekly “sex contracts,” she worries that they will reveal that he found her easily replaceable. She is astonished and annoyed when he includes only one contract, bearing her name and asking her to sign.
